What can I give you, again and again, without limit, without exhaustion, without fear, because it will never run out, and the more of it that I give, the more I get and the more of it comes into existence for all of us to share? The answer is truth, beauty, and goodness! And my desire to give these to you is called love. There can never be too much truth, beauty, goodness, or love in the world!
However, I would like to make a distinction between divine love, which is constant and unconditional, given freely to all by God, who is Infinite Spirit, without asking for or expecting anything in return, and the human (ego-animal) type of love which is self-serving, fear-based, manipulative, and dishonest. It's actually about getting something from others and having one's own needs met. But God, being the Infinite Source, Divine Creator, and Eternal Upholder of all that is, has no such human (evolutionary animal) needs.
And because God is the Universal Father and Divine Mother of all created intelligences (minds, souls, and personalities with the capacity to know God and receive the divine affection, including those material beings, like us, who are created through the agency of planetary evolution in time, the agelong struggle of competitive survival), there is a parental love originating in and extending from the Deities which is superior to all other forms and manifestations of love; it is so perfect and all-encompassing that it can be experienced as a personal-spiritual absolute!
Thankfully, human beings have the capacity to feel-experience and express-enact divine love (as an ever deepening and ever enlarging revelational ministry of divine truth, beauty, and goodness) whenever they see and care for others as valuable parts of themselves, as brothers and sisters in one universal family of God's creative, sustaining, and everlasting love. That's why I sometimes refer to it (unselfish, parental, divine love) as “universal family love”.
So here we are in November, celebrating a national day of thanks-giving as we approach once again a holiday season of gift-giving. This year I would like to give you something special, a gift so great, so good, so beautiful, and so true that no limits or constraints whatsoever can be placed upon it, the infinite gift of divine love! Jesus taught that we should love our neighbors as ourselves, and further, that we should love and serve one another even as he loved and served us. He invited us to become like him, the actual living embodiment of the Heavenly Father's love for each and every human being. So that’s what I’m committing to doing!
Will you join me? If all of us work together in partnership with God, faithfully and patiently, courageously and wisely, creatively and joyously, then we will surely one day establish the rule of divine love in the hearts of all human beings, and at long last there will reign “Peace on Earth” and goodwill among all men and women. That’s what I want my life (and yours) to help achieve for this planet! I've written more about how we might go about accomplishing this mighty transformation of consciousness and culture on my homepage: http://www.dextergraphic.com/.
